For Barbarians chasing Overkill, the grind can feel a bit brutal at first, especially when you are trying to line up the right two-handed mace for a Death Blow setup. The good news is that you do not need to sit around waiting for lucky world drops. If you know where to look, and what to feed into the right systems, getting D4 items becomes much less of a headache, and the weapon you want starts to feel a lot closer than people think.
Start with Varshan
Varshan is the main target here, plain and simple. Overkill sits in his unique loot pool, so every clean kill gives you a real shot at the mace. The loop is straightforward: beat Varshan, open the chest with a Lair Key, and keep moving. Most players slow down because they run out of keys, so War Plans matter more than people first expect. If you can keep those runs flowing, the whole farm gets smoother, and it starts to feel less like a gamble.
Use every bonus roll you can
There is also a nice extra layer to the farm. Varshan drops Malignant Hearts, and once you have five, you can turn them in for a cache tied to his loot table. That does not replace the boss kill. It just gives you another swing at the same prize. A lot of players ignore that part and miss out on free value. If you are already farming the boss, you might as well cash in those hearts and take the extra chance.
| Method | What it targets | Why it helps | | Varshan runs | Overkill directly | Best target farm for the mace | | Five Malignant Hearts | Varshan cache | Extra loot pull from the same pool | | Obol gambling and upgrades | Two-handed maces | Useful when you have spare mats and time |
The backup path
If you still have not seen Overkill, there is a slower route through item upgrading. You can gamble Murmuring Obols at the Purveyor of Curiosities for two-handed maces, then push those bases through the Horadric Cube upgrade path. It is not the cleanest route, and the pool is wider than most people would like, but it can pay off when the main farm runs dry. This is really the kind of thing you do on the side, not the thing you build your whole evening around.
Keep the loop simple
Here is the order most players should stick to: first, farm Varshan until the key supply gets thin; second, turn in Malignant Hearts whenever you hit five; third, spend spare Obols and crafting mats on mace gambles and upgrades. That rhythm saves time and stops the process from turning into a mess. If you keep the pace up and do not drift off into random side content, you will give yourself the best shot at landing the weapon that makes Death Blow feel so much better, especially when you are trying to finish a build with Diablo 4 materials for sale already set aside for the next upgrade.
